As a member of Bowie-Cass Electric Co-op, you are in control of selecting Directors and sharing in Cooperative margins. Cooperative "margin", or profit, is any money left over after all operating costs have been paid. Since you are a member of BCEC, part of that margin belongs to you.
In 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2005 the BCEC membership received a combined $2,000,000 worth of Capital Credits. During the last ten years, BCEC has returned over 4 million dollars to the membership.
Each year your share of the margin for the preceding year is calculated. This share is based on your billings during the past year. This margin is the amount of "Capital Credits" you gained during the year. The amount of Capital Credits retired each year fluctuates and is based on the equity necessary to maintain financial soundness of the Cooperative and is determined by the Board of Directors.
If you move or no longer have service with BCEC, your address needs to be kept current with the Cooperative in order for you to receive your Capital Credit refund in future years.
